The Orlo School of Hair Design & Cosmetology had the pleasure of catching up with 2009 graduate and Alumni standout, Lauren Sebert. As an Education Major at Russell Sage College, she realized that the job demand for teaching and student loans were not looking good. She knew she would be in competition with 500 other applicants looking for a job. With her passion for the beauty industry in combination of her family’s support, Lauren decided to pursue Cosmetology instead of a Master’s Degree.
Choosing Orlo was a no brainer. As a Receptionist at the Hair-Em Salon in Ravena her co-workers went to Orlo and highly recommended it. Her favorite memory of Orlo was working on the Senior Floor and learning from her favorite Instructor, Ms. Siebles. There on the Senior Floor is where she fell in love with interacting with the public and practicing on friends.
After graduation, she started as a full time stylist at the Hair-Em Salon. Then an amazing opportunity happened; the owner of the Hair-Em Salon retired and offered the business to Lauren! At 23 years young, Lauren was a successful business owner and savvy Stylist. The Hair-Em is going on its fifth year under Lauren’s strong ownership, their salon, in the small town of Ravena gets local clients as well as people who travel all the way from Clifton Park and Kingston! The talented team specializes in cutting and coloring. As a busy Stylist and Salon Owner, Lauren balances her business and adorable family. She utilizes a salon computer system that allows her to work from home in addition to inside the salon with her great team. She couldn’t stress enough how awesome, trustworthy and well educated her team was. Our very own Orlo Instructor, Ms. Jackie Bushnell, is a proud employee.
The best thing about being a hairstylist for Lauren is that the industry is pretty flexible, it’s not your typical nine to five job. You can have a family, make your own schedule, be creative and free-spirited. For the talented Lauren it fit her personality and lifetstyle! We love Lauren!
